S&P 1500 Most Heavily Shorted Stocks

Short interest figures for the middle of January were released after the close on Friday, and we just sent out our latest update to Bespoke Premium subscribers this morning.  Below we list the most heavily shorted stocks (as a percentage of float) in the S&P 1500.  As shown, there are currently 33 stocks whose short interest as a percentage of float exceeds 25%.  Of these 33 names, eighteen are from the S&P 600 small cap index, ten are from the S&P 400 mid cap index, while just five are large cap stocks.  The three most heavily shorted names are Spectrum Pharma (51.85%), Blyth (51.75%) and Questcor (51.23%).  They are also all small cap stocks.  Outside of these three names, JC Penney (JCP) is the most heavily shorted large cap stock with 46.11% of its float sold short, while Deckers Outdoor (DECK) is the most heavily shorted mid cap stock with 43.68% of its float sold short.
