S&P 500 Average Group Performance in October

We just sent out our monthly update to Bespoke Premium clients highlighting S&P 500 average group returns in the month of October.  Going back to 1990, October has been a positive month where the S&P 500 has averaged a gain of 1.50% with positive returns 68% of the time.  October’s average return would be even better were it not for 2008 where the index fell 17% during the month!  Without 2008, the S&P 500 would have averaged a gain of 2.4%.  In terms of individual groups, fifteen out of 25 have seen average gains of more than one percent.
